Barn Hunt is coming to Swansea this weekend! August 30 and 31st
We are holding Barn Hunt lessons on August 30th and a Fun Test on August 31st. Here’s the flyer: BarnHuntFlyer
Imagine a securely fenced ring with bails of straw piled into a maze including a 18” wide
tunnel. Now somewhere in the ring is hidden a rat (safely enclosed in aerated tubes) and
you have to tell the judge when your dog has found the rat tube in a limited amount to
time. It’s a timed event with 3 different height sizes. Teams can get titles (at a real Trail),
placements, and championships.
The purpose of Barn Hunt is to demonstrate a dog’s vermin hunting ability in finding and
marking rats in a “barn-like” setting, using straw/hay bales to introduce climbing and
tunneling obstacles in the dog’s path. Barn Hunt is based on the skills historically used by
itinerant “ratcatchers” that traveled the countryside, ridding farms of vermin, thus helping
conserve and preserve food grains and cutting down on disease.
Barn Hunt is for any breed or mix of dog who loves to hunt and who can fit through an
18” wide gap between two hay bales. It will test speed, agility, and surefootedness. While
not specifically targeted at larger dogs or dogs without a vermin hunting history, Barn
Hunt is all inclusive and fun for any dog and human who wishes to play the game.

About Swansea Dog Obedience Club
The Swansea Dog Obedience Club (SDOC) is a not-for-profit volunteer club. Members of the Club volunteer their time to promote responsible dog ownership through class instruction, seminars, obedience trials, agility competitions, and pet visitations to seniors’ residences.
Since 1974, the Club has successfully instructed thousands of dogs and their owners in puppy, basic obedience, competitive obedience, Rally-O and Agility classes.
At Swansea, praise and positive motivation and reinforcement are combined to enable every dog to reach its full potential as a well behaved companion or a participant in competitions.
Our classes are held in the west end of Toronto, Ontario at St. Matthew’s Church (3962 Bloor St. West, a few blocks east of Hwy. 427).
We look forward to seeing you at our classes.
