Novice Class/

Introduction to competitive obedience work and the CKC Companion Dog title

Novice Class

This dog is getting a pep talk before the sit-stay exercise.

Novice Class (CD):

Don't be fooled by the name. Novice isn't for beginners. It is the first step towards the CKC Companion Dog (CD) title and entry into the world of "top dogs."

Getting a Companion Dog title says something distinctive about you and your dog. The title is everlasting proof that the two of you work well as a team and have a special bond. These classes are for those who are training for the CKC CD title and wish to learn the required exercises and improve their performance.

A 4 to 6 foot leash is required for this class. Bring your own leash or, if you wish, leather leashes will be available for purchase at the class.

What you will accomplish...
  • Learn the following CD exercises with the intent of entering a trial, namely:
    • Heel on leash
    • Figure 8
    • Heel free (off leash)
    • Stand for examination
    • Recall & finish
    • Long sit stay
    • Long down stay
  • Gather tips and learn techniques to polish your performance in the ring
  • Build precision and consistency in each of the exercises
  • Improve your dog’s attention while on the move

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Obedience Level 2 and instructor recommendation.
